After the death of her husband in October 1957, Fern Bradley Duffner and her father moved back to California, as ‘Will wanted to return to a warmer climate but not to the smog of the Los Angeles area.’ They settled in the newly built Park La Jolla apartment complex, near the sunny shores of La Jolla, California. He was now 89 and his health was failing. By 1960, he was in a rest home in La Mesa, California.
